We aren't called to struggle less, were called to struggle better. And in 2018 I vow to struggle better.
You see... we all have our ups downs, ins and outs, our own things to own up to and our own weaknesses to get better at. We all have areas of passion and areas of talent, but I want to capitalize on those passions and talents, and learn to thrive even in the struggle. How do you do that? With G O A L S.Read More
Do you ever feel like you just didn't make it? Or this year shouldn't have counted.... well this is the year I turned 23. This is also the year I struggled to find balance between a corporate job that was sucking me dry and pouring into this little dream business of mine. I found love in 2017, which counts as hard because....Read More
It's a bucket list type of thing. I have a never ending list of to-do's, want-to's, and gotta-see's. Designing an album cover is one of those things that hits all three.
I don't believe in coincidence. But I do believe in divine encounters. Every Olive+Fig project has been more than a transaction of time and money. So it's funny (and SO very awesome) how new friends or meeting new people always holds the opportunity to turn into a project for O+F.
This time, two guys--let me note: extremely gifted--singing, songwriting, praising Jesus, and ropin' some steers too. (not listed in any certain order ;)) They reached out to me and asked that I design their album cover for their first single, Road To Vegas.
Drum roll please......

Starting a business is no small feat. From the dream stage into full fruition, the process of developing my own business has truly inspired my passion for helping others through this sometimes lengthy and testing processes.
How do you even start a business??
Well, you see, it starts with an idea. An idea, followed with a well developed business plan, a registered business name with the Secretary of state, a business bank account, and a devout commitment to work your little tail off for the mercy of your own idea. With this, a relevant URL should also be considered. Relevant domain names are hard to come by these days. Going without a well designed & developed website is business suicide.
It sounds not so complicated when put in so few words, but these are just a few of the first big steps to make your new venture "official".
Branding is crucial in building brand awareness.
After the beginning steps, it's time for the fun stuff. What will your business look like visually? What is your logo going to look like? What colors are you going to use? This really is where O+F comes in full fledged. You can read more here about the process. We talk about colors, patterns, textures, and your inspirations. This is where we really dive into your dreams and your passions. We want to let that come out in your business branding. But I tell you, branding is much more than a logo, color palettes, fonts, and pattern choices. Branding encompases every essence of a business. Your branding is the guidelines and the foundation you have set for your business, which just so happens to be represented visually through a logo, color choices, fonts, and patterns.
The moment you have been waiting for. Even if it's just a logo for now, or a new business card, your brand NEEDS to be put out into the world in order to start your business. People need to see who you are and what you do. Be cautious to not do this prematurely, as what your audience sees is what they will associate you with. So changing your brand too many times to early on, will confuse your audience. But if you have a solid branding and a logo to go with it, put it out there! Put it everywhere. Let it be known.
The website launch proves to be the most rewarding part of the project. Because an online presence is so crucial, designing and developing a beautiful and easy-to-use website is powerful. Being able to show everyone what a business has to offer in an online setting proves beneficial immediately (thank you analytics). Ecommerce websites are also a very fun and exciting thing to watch grow and develop. Check out Urban Edge's newly launched site! It is a true example of this process.
Effective communication of your brand establishes brand loyalty.
What you put out there and how you put it out there in the name of your brand is very important. Think of a logo as a first impression. It's something that represents your business, inside and out. So it definitely should be something you LOVE and truly represents your business as a whole. Creating a business and its brand is a process that can many weeks. With planning, research, and design, you will uncover a brand concept and logo that truly fits. Follow that with clear concept of who you are, what you do, and what you offer. It is the foundation of the rest to follow, so it better be strong.
Get out there. Communicate with your audience.
Websites, Social media, Store Fronts, Events, and face-to-face encounters are all opportunities to communicate your brand. Website and social media have rapidly increased our abilities to reach people far and wide. If done well, this can be the most effective advertising tool. O+F includes social media help in its website and branding packages to help you launch your business and brand. It's a learning process. If you aren't a social media guru now, you will get the hang of it. And if you are completely intimidated by the social media world, find someone to help you out! (like O+F)
Don't miss out on the small opportunities to go the extra mile. Hand written notes in your packages, fun facts on your social pages, or an informative blog post, can all be ways to let your audience into what your brand is all about. You are human, and you are talking to humans, so be personable.
There is struggle with every reward. There is challenge with every victory.
Remember where you started when you question where you are. Think about your dreams and goals when the tasks before you are overwhelming you. But always remember there is beauty in the process.
GO BUILD YOUR BRAND.

Website are important because...
They allow direct communication with your audience.
More than 2.4 billion people use the internet every day, and some 90% of those have purchased something, or contacted a company, online in the last 12 months.
A website represents who you are as a business. And a well designed website, will enhance your credibility with your audience. It grants users an all access pass to your site. A website communicates who you are, what you do, and what you can offer them. There are no business hours, and they can come an go as they please 24/7. Without a website, you don't have any channel of communication with any audience and are sacrificing possible business.Read More
It is the official birthday of olivefigandco.com! It's been my little corner of the internet to share with your for a whopping 365 days. April 10th, you are NOT just another day.
Over the course of a year there have been countless adventures, priceless memories made, and a few struggles in between. In less than a month I will have been out of college for a full year. WOW, time does fly. Some could say that I have fallen short of societal expectation. I do not have what some call "a real job". I do not have a boss. And I do not make a six figure income. But I'll let you in on something...society's expectation of "making it big" and being "successful" is actually a complete JOKE.
What I HAVE done, is found ultimate happiness in the unconventional. I have discovered my love for people, passion for creative design, and true desire to serve the One who gave me my gifts in the first place.
In 365 days I have graduated from College. Moved from TX back to CO. Explored the idea of moving into the Corporate world. Worked in Wyoming for a while. Built 6 different websites. Wondered a few times "WHAT am I doing". Cried over a bad haircut. Worked with over 15 wonderful clients--most of which have become great friends. And I've learned A LOT. A lot about myself, my capabilities, my talents, and my desire to cultivate a life unlike any other.
Olive + Fig was founded out of the idea that I thought I could offer my creativity and design skills to people, businesses, and entrepreneurs. You know, the people that have great ideas but no way to turn those ideas into reality? That is --more than likely-- YOU. It all starts with an idea. I would have never guessed that I would be back in the small community where I grew up, but I'll tell ya-- It has been better than I ever would have guessed. And I know that even though it may not be my forever home, where I am today serves a purpose for where I will be tomorrow.
So today I am CELEBRATING! Celebrating the beauty in the unconventional, ALL of the clients I have been blessed to work with, all of the long hours and frustrations, taxes I owe the government for being a small business, and most importantly this business that I get to call mine.
Happy Birthday olivefigandco.com!
Classrooms need to be inviting. So I was glad to work with the NJC Business Department to design some new poster artwork for their classrooms. I worked to create vibrant pieces to take the place of the slightly dated posters currently on the walls.
I was able to combine my love for hand drawn lettering with my appreciation for simplicity. All lettering was done by hand. This growth poster was first drawn in pencil, then design in Photoshop. All Watercolor lettering was done with a Watercolor brush pen (my new favorite design tool).
The rough hand drawn letters kept it traditional as most classrooms still have white boards and Expo markers. Hand drawn lettering keeps things comfortable, inviting, and relatable.
The Open House was such a blast! We couldn't have asked for a better turnout. It was so great seeing everyone enjoy the evening with wine, snacks, and our photo booth. Who knew that a few props and a background would be such a hit!
This event allowed me to work along side one of my best friends, Owner of Premier Events: Dakota Schuppe. We--of course--had a blast putting this event together. From craft store runs to the day-of set up, this was such a great opportunity for us to use both of our businesses, together!
I was able to offer up my design services and creativity to help Dakota bring her ideas to life. We had three event table scapes, all which turned out great! My personal fav was our Kate Spade inspire wedding table.
So this event was a hit! And so much fun to put together. Thanks again for all of you that made it out and made this event what it was.
Of course there are more than three words to describe what this event will be, but we will start with FREE. WINE & FUN.
"Open House" means you are free to come meander around The Studio to see what Premier Events Planning & Design, The Studio, and Olive + Fig & Co. mean when they say "IT'S A PARTY." I'm not going to give it away (hint: GIVE AWAY(s)), but it's going to be awesome. And there will be wine. And food. And FREE stuff.
What more could you ask for?
Come and see us Wednesday, December 2nd from 5-7 PM. There will be a FAB appetizers & wine provided by local vendors. Along with some REALLY REALLY great giveaway gifts.
I'm excited to offer a giveaway drawing for a FREE CUSTOM ART PIECE. By coming and seeing me at the OPEN HOUSE you will get 2 entries for the drawing. THIS IS A HUGE HUGE DEAL. If you have always wanted to have a custom art piece for your home, office, or a loved one, but have never had the ability to do so, you really don't want to miss the chance to work with me on a custom piece. && I can't wait to work with you!

I love family pictures. Not just for the love of an image, but because it's capturing a dynamic that reminds families why family is so important. Family pictures become a looking box for growth, love, and relationships. I love getting to capture that. For this shoot, it was particularly fun because they are my family too! The fall leaves topped it all off.
I can't top the drone photography and video, but I can put those pictures and videos into a beautiful online space for others to enjoy. I sure do love to put such beautiful creativity to life on the web. The photography and imagery that Kammy Schuppe provided for the SCHUPPE FARMS website made it what it is. She has a genuine gift to capture agriculture--in all aspects-- through a lense (See 2013 flood pictures).
But let's not forget the men and their families behind it all. Schuppe Farms is a fifth generation production farm in Northeastern Colorado. Schuppe Hay Farms raises quality Grass and Alfalfa Hay and markets their product across the United States. They also raise corn. Dalton runs SNS Excavating in the off season. And the annual bull sale comes every spring. This means there are no 8-5 business hours, no days off, and no corner office on the 25th floor. Agriculture is life.
Schuppe Hay Farms has been a loyal client of Olive + Fig. Working with Schuppe Farms is always a fun and creative treat. As our website project began, a new logo was in order. They have expanded their business vastly, and this new logo gives them a fresh, new face to the Schuppe Hay Farms brand. AND don't forget all the fun goodies like t-shirts, coffee mugs, letter labels & calendars to canvas their new logo.
Go and check out the new and improved schuppefarms.com!
I first branded Premier Events nearly three years ago when my good friend, Dakota Schuppe, first acted on her deep inner passion for event planning. It was at this time that she knew she wanted to have a business of her own to fulfill her dream as an event planner. After receiving her CWEP certification, she began to develop Premier Events, Event planning and design.
We later decided a re-brand was in order to freshen up the logo and brand identity, which resulted in the logo you see above^. BUT the most exciting part of all is that Premier Events has a newly designed and developed website. This is an online space to showcase all the events that Premier Events has planned and designed, talk about experiences, and share information with audiences. It started with a logo, but has turned into something spectacular. Dakota is a hard-working, organized, and devoted individual that seeks the sole purpose of each event to meet her clients true desires. She has a gift for communication and, in-turn, executes each and every detail in good--no, GREAT-- taste.
Premier Events has since been apart of several weddings, baby showers, and open house events. From full on Wedding Planner, to Day-Of help, Premier Events adapts their services to each clients needs. No matter, the outcome of each event is always...astounding.
It has been such a joy designing and developing this new website for Premier Events. Not only is Dakota awesome to work with, but I truly believe in what she is doing and how she is doing it. This online space is a place to showcase events, blog about experiences, and communicate with audiences everywhere. Go check it out, you won't be dissapointed!
"I will be their God and they will be MY people."
Church = his people.
Church has grown far beyond the traditional scope of Sunday services at your local church, with the weekly bulletin informing you of that months events and activities. Congregations across the nation are working to reach audiences far beyond the people sitting in the audience on Sunday. The increase of the online presence of churches has given them the ability to largely expand their reach.
Dominion Purpose is a non-traditional and non-denominational church in Northeastern Colorado. You may then ask, "Where is your church located?" To which could be said, "We are the church."
A building doesn't signify that Dominion exists nor does a large congregation. A body of people seeking the kingdom and prioritizing growth in Him is what signifies Dominion. And now those messages are available online! Olive and Fig had yet another opportunity to build an online space for the purpose of sharing information with the ability to listen to their online podcast from a mobile device.
A MUST READ = "Free-Range Christian" on their Blog.
Visit Dominions podcast archive to listen to messages on Grace, the book of Nehemiah, and the most recent series, "A Walk Through The Gospels". No matter where you are, you will have access to the messages that Dominion has for you.

It's weird saying "Alma Mater" but you know, that why this project was great. I truly wanted to bring some fresh new designs to the ACU campus store. I had spent the last three years of my life on ACU's campus. I knew first hand the demographic that made ACU, well ACU.
There really IS more going on here than just a graphic designer creating designs for a college campus store. Rather, it's an expression of gratitude that I had the opportunity to showcase what ACU has provided me.
First, an invaluable education. I say invaluable because no price can be put on creativity, experience, and professors that truly care about your well-being.
Second, that "exceptional. innovative. real." attitude that may be have a sarcastic spin, but is actually true. ACU is exceptionally innovative and real. You can't walk on ACU's campus and ignore what's there.
And third, because of ACU I am here. Graduated. Educated. And doing things like this, and getting paid in-turn. Olive + Fig & Co was developed out of the dire need for creative services--a need I saw nearly everywhere I went--and was fueled by my course work in ACU's Graphic Arts department.
(THANK YOU Ryan Freerer, Mike Wiggins, Nil, and Lisa Wiggins)
I loved working with Chelle, ACU's Campus Store's head buyer, along with her group of students. We were able to have collaborative meetings to explore ideas of new ACU apparel. Above and beyond athletic gear, we wanted something wearable, fun, and different.
So all you ACUers, go check out the Campus Store to see some of these designs on some new tees!
I made my way down to Dripping Springs TX to snap some pics for a good friend! He recently moved from small town Iliff CO to pursue his country music career. If any place, Austin Texas is the place to do so.
We ventured out to find beautiful country scenery to get a library of pictures for his upcoming EP and website. Go check him out, like him on Facebook.
I may have a biased opinion, but they turned out GREAT!
